Pastry rose, nailed it!

Cooking some vegetables, as titled, Eggplant, zucchini with mushroom preserve, then I found it too salty to eat straight. I guess some chunky sized pasta won't spoil it.


Red Swiss chard

Chocolate sable (shortcake)

I intended to make chocolate shortcake, but some came out as rock collection. However, it was not the end of the world, I still got some by-product which was  edible and very tempting.

1 pack of chocolate brownie mix,
1 egg,
1 stick of butter

Preheat oven to 350,
melt butter then let cool,
add brownie, egg and mix with spoon loosely,
put mix back in refrigerator for 10 minutes for so till the dough cool and hard,
take out and bake for 15 - 20 minutes.

The trick is not the work on the dough, and not over bake. Put the mix in a baking dish loosely, without pressing, it turns out shortcake.

If you press the dough and try to make it in shape, you rock! I mean you get the cooking hard as rock.

Trio mushroom in oyster sauce

Bought Costco trio mushroom, it looked so cute.

Trio mushroom from Costco, 1 pound,
salt pepper, cooking oil to taste
one table spoon of oyster sauce

Heat one table spoon of cooking oil in pot,
add mushroom to cook for 2 minutes,
hello with salt pepper,
add in oyster sauce to cooking another 5 minutes,

Salad with blood orange

2 hard boiled eggs,
1 butter lettuce
salt, pepper, olive oil, mustard, pinch of sugar
half blood orange

Mix everything except blood orange,
add orange at last.

Steam fish with large couscous

Olivier came home with a huge Costco sole fish and it's me to cook it.

I washed it and found out that the scale was not cleaned. I cleaned and the scales flew off in the sky. I disliked it so so so very much.

Finally I managed to stuff it into the steamer.

At the end, it was surprisingly good.

1 piece of sole fish, about 2 pounds,
salt pepper cooking oil, soy sauce and cilantro, mix to make sauce

Bring water to boil,
Put salad leaves in drainer,
put in fish to steam for 10 to 20 minutes
When cooking,
pour on top of the fish the sauce mixture

The couscous,
1/2 pound large grain couscous,
salt pepper cooking oil, water

Heat one table spoon of cooking oil in pan,
add couscous and stir,
hello with salt pepper
add water to simmer for 10 minutes

Tofu and Chinese cabbage

There is one piece of tofu left from yesterday, and the Chinese cabbage is looking for company. Naturally they make good marriage.

1 pound of Chinese cabbage, break with hand,
1 piece of tofu, cut
salt pepper cooking oil

Heat 2 table spoons of cooking oil,
put in tofu to sear for 2 minutes, then take out,
add in cabbage,
hello with salt pepper and the mystery twins,
cook for 5 to 10 minutes

Brussels sprouts with cranberry

I have never cooked Bressel sprout. So I checked Wikipidea and found out that is was not illegal to stir fry it. Then, go my way for it.

1 pound of Brussels sprouts, cut half
1/8 pound of cranberry
salt pepper cooking oil

Heat 1 table spoon of cooking oil in pan
Put in Brussels sprouts to cook for 5 minutes
add cranberry
turn and stir to cook another 5 minutes
add water and let absorbed by the vegetable

Seared abalone mushroom

There is a newly opened grocery store in our neighboring town and close to my work in Palo Alto. They sell quality stuff, Semifreddi bread and various kinds of mushroom, some I have not seen. So I buy and try one at a time.

This time, abalone mushroom. With its jumbo size, it must be able to fake for steak.

2 abalone mushroom, slice to the thickness of 1.5 cm,
salt pepper cooking oil

Heat 1 table spoon of cooking oil in pan,
add sliced abalone to sear for 5 minutes in medium fire,
hello with salt pepper
turn over and sear for another 5 minutes,
hello again with salt pepper

Swiss chard with leftover egg white

Oliver made paste cabonara and used 3 egg yolks, so there left 3 egg white. I should use it.

I made a stir fry of Swiss chard with leftover egg white.

1 bunch of red Swiss chard,
3 egg white,
salt pepper cooking oil

Heat 2 table spoons of cooking oil in pot,
stir fry the egg white then take out,
add in chard and break with hand,
hello with salt pepper
cook for 5 minutes

Seared tofu

One youtube friend asked about tofu. After a week, I got time to buy some tofu.
I chatted with my friend, she said she seared the tofu with some starch. I tried, came out good.

1 piece of tofu, cut into the cuboid of 1 x 4 x 8 cm,
season with salt pepper
thinly coat with corn starch

Heat 1 table spoon of cooking oil in pan,
add in tofu to sear in medium low fire for 5 minutes,
turn over to sear for another 5 minutes

Butter cake with chocolate pieces

Craving for sweet, but not too sweet. Go cake.
Plain cake with sugar flower butter is never fun enough, so I found a palate of hazel nuts chocolate.

1 cup of all purpose flour,
3 eggs
1 stick of butter
1 pack of Alsa levure chemique
3 full table spoons of sugar
1 bottle of homemade yogurt
one palate of hazel nut chocolate

Heat oven to 350,
Melt butter,
add in sugar, flour, egg, levure, yogurt,
mix with blender until smooth,
break chocolate to small size and mix in
Pour into baking pan to bake for 50 minutes

Fried rice

1 cup of leftover rice,
2 eggs,
salt pepper cooking oil

Heat pot,
add 2 table spoons of cooking oi,
beat 2 eggs and put into hot oil,
scramble the egg for 1 minute,
add in rice,
add salt pepper to cook for 3 minutes

Yogurt with cranberry and cucumber

1 bottle of homemade yogurt,
2 cucumber, small dice,
1/4 pound of cranberry,

Mix everything.

Childhood patty

2 potatos, shreded,
2 zucchini,
1 carrot,
1/2 pound minced port,
2 eggs, salt pepper cooking oil,
2 table spoonds of corn sarch

Mix everything together,
Heat pan, add 2 table spoons of cooking oil
Put in mix and shape it to patty,
Cook for 5 minutes,
Cook another 5 minutes.

Grilled scallop and king trumpet mushroom

Saturday, friends will come, so I will cook something more than the unglamorous home food. Grilled scallop and king trumpet mushroom.

1 pound jumbo scallop, about 15 pieces,
2 big king trumpet mushroom, sliced to the size of scallop
salt pepper butter olive oil, sugar, starch

marinate the scallop with salt pepper and a bit of sugar,
coat with starch,
Heat pan, add butter and olive oil,
Grill everything together for 10 minutes while turning, not too often,
the scallop has a lot of water, which will be absorbed by the mushroom.

Perfect combination.


This is according to the recipe from Cordon Blue. Any other recipe online works fine, I guess.
